Who Is Brandon Escobar?

Brandon J. “Esco” Escobar Amador is an Olympic wrestler and amatuer MMA fighter. Escobar is not only a competitor but he also was a coach for children and adults at the UFC gym located in Sunnyvale, CA. He currently is a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu under C. Ryan Quinn and Tony Bergamo. Both Bergamo and Quinn are students of John Danaher and are Renzo Gracie black belts.

Around 2012, Brandon Escobar was approached by Honduras Olympic coach, Humberto Torres Trujillo.  Escobar had wanted to work as a coach and mentor for the National Honduras Wrestling team, but ended up being offered a position as a competitor. Within three months of Escobar working with the Honduras National Wrestling team, he found himself competing in the 2012 Pan American Olympic qualifier. He would win and eventually move onto the 2012 Olympic Games in London that summer. Escobar was the first Honduras competitor to qualify for the Olympics. He is known for his Freestyle and Greco Roman style of wrestling. 

Brandon Escobar is currently affiliated with Jackson Wink MMA located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jackson Wink MMA’s head coach is Greg Jackson and their striking coach is Mike Winkeljohn. Escobar has been a coach for Jackson Wink MMA since 2020, according to his Facebook.

In 2019, Brandon Escobar decided to return to college and attended Nassau Community College where he would go 6-2 at the NJCAA National Championship, earning 6th place.

Brandon Escobar was originally born in New York but lived in Honduras for the first couple years of his life. Eventually he moved back to the United States where he would live Suffolk County in Long Island, New York. 

In the 8th grade is when Brandon Escobar would become interested in wrestling. Escobar joined the Rocky Point High School wrestling team where he would be mentored by Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee, Darren Goldstein. Upon graduation, Escobar would find himself training at the United States Olympic Training Center and the New York Athletic Club. At the time, his coach was Nick Catana. Not soon later, Escobar would switch his focus to coaching instead of competing. Escobar had the opportunity to coach fellow wrestlers such as Adam Busiello and Nick Piccininni. He later attributed this break from competition to his smaller stature.

As an amateur MMA fighter he has fought in Fight Factory: MMA Fights, War by the Shore 2, Triton Fights 8, Rocky Mountain Rubicon along with a handful of others. Strike Hard Productions 60 on April 17, 2021 was a major win for Brandon Escobar. He fought Luke Chokan for three rounds in the flyweight division. Both competitors were extremely fast. Escobar was constantly getting Chokan in headlocks and attacking his back. There was an upset in round three when Chokan was able to nearly land an armbar on Escobar, but he ultimately was able to avoid the submission. The match ended in a unanimous decision, Escobar winning the match. He was awarded the Strike Hard Productions flyweight belt and this would be that match that would start his current winning streak of two matches in a row. 

Who Did Brandon Escobar Lose To?

On April 17, 2015, Brandon Escobar lost to a submission by Anul Pina Jr. at No Limit Fighting Championships 6.

On April 25, 2015, Frankie Oceguera won against Brandon Escobar by unanimous decision. This took place at WCS 19.

July 18, 2017, Escobar lost to Alberto Trujillo by rear naked choke at Archangel Worldwide. 

On August 15, 2017, Brandon Escobar lost by unanimous decision against Mauel Ruiz at Bred 4 Battle. 

July 13, 2018, Escobar would lose by majority decision against Grant Kabol. This fight took place at Triton Fights 8.
