Skold grew up in the area of Hultsfred, Sweden with both his parents in the home. Although he didn’t play traditional sports as a child, Simon had still found his way to combat sports by the time he was thirteen. It was then that he joined a karate school to begin learning stand up striking. Only two years later, at the age of just 15, he received and accepted an offer to compete on the Swedish national team.

In the following year, as a 16 year old, Skold won the Junior title in karate and also earned bronze medals at both the British Open and at the Nordic Championships. He even competed in the Wado Ryu Karate world championships and took home yet another bronze medal, this time from Portugal. Just a few years later at the age of 19, Simon Skold made the tough choice to move from his home town of Hultsfred to Stockholm in order to really pursue his career in combat sports.
Skold discovered grappling a couple years later as a young twenty-something and participated in regional tournaments very early on. After a few more years of karate victories, a 21 year old Skold found himself ready to improve his skills to become an all around fighter and no longer ‘just’ a striker.
While he trained in Jiu Jitsu, he also learned something from his wife who is an international author. He lectures on training and motivation and even published a guide that he wrote. On top of all of this? Skold chose to begin MMA as a second career.
In his time as a pro, Skold has fought to a 9-8 record, and finished seven of his nine victories with a submission or stoppage. Clearly, his work on the mats and the bags paid off as he made his transition from exclusively stand up arts to MMA.
He continues to fight actively while also learning new skills with his wife, with whom he has appeared as an actor in a few roles.

Simon Skold has had many fights in his career; too many to list here. Instead, check out a breakdown of his greatest and worst moments in the cage below.
Simon Skold's Best Fight of All Time
For a fighter like Simon Skold, it’s hard to pin down one amazing moment as he claws his way to the top of the international scene. It’s likely that one of his best memories inside the cage is against Jerry Kvarnstrom. The two were set to face off in the Spring of 2018 for a three round fight in Stockholm. Although Skold trained hard for the fight, he wasn’t able to fend off Kvarnstrom’s ability to finish. Skold was defeated by a guillotine choke in the third round.
He didn’t have to wait long for his revenge, however, as Skold was granted an immediate rematch against the man who had finished him with a tight choke the last time they met in the cage. He came out strong and fought a smarter fight than he did the first time and, at the end of a full three, five-minute rounds, Skold had his hand raised as the winner of the fight. Avenging a previous loss had to make this moment all the more sweet to Simon Skold.

Who Did Simon Skold Lose To?
Losing is awful. Fighters hate to lose, and that prospect drives a lot of the hard work that they put in the gym. When a fighter gets finished, they typically look to shore up the thing that got them beat so it doesn’t happen again. But when things go wrong the same way twice, and in back to back fights? Well that can be downright infuriating for a combat athlete.
In 2013, Jaakko Vayrynen from Finland matched up with Skold on Cage 21. He managed to beat him only two minutes into the round via a nasty heel hook. Once he got control of the leg, Vayrynen never gave it back. Skold then faced another Finnish fighter, this time Mika Hamalainen stepped up to challenge the up and coming Skold on Cage 23. History repeated itself and Skold again found himself tapping. Again to a heel hook in the second minute of the fight.
In fighting, your friends, coaches, and family are looking at how you get up- not how you go down. Although Skold experienced back to back losses in this fashion, he didn’t let it discourage him from continuing to grow into the elite fighter that he’d wanted to become in the first place. It's a great reminder to continue pursuing your passions in life.

Is Simon Skold Retired?
Simon Skold is not retired from professional mixed martial arts competition. He’s still only 35 years old and has plenty of gas in the tank to continue to climb the international ranks. His impact on Skolds career can’t be overstated and he will be missed in camp by the Swede.
Beyond his time in the mat honoring those with whom he has had the pleasure to work, Simon Skold also slowed his pace down enough to show us some tips.
